This is the book I have been looking for. I have videos and books on fundamentals, but those books and videos have very little on tactics. When you use the Amazon look inside feature it doesn't do this book justice. I was hesitant to buy this because it looked childish and basic. NOT THE CASE! I am a new girls soccer coach and I understand the fundamentals stuff, but I struggled with 3v3 and higher games and how they should be played to blend into the larger game. Most other books just say have the players play small sided games and give almost no direction. I needed a book that could tell my why a small sided game was important, how the players should play and how to instruct them. I didn't want to just put a bunch of 8 yr old girls on the field and say play. This book does an AWESOME job of going through 1st and 2nd defender, formations from 1v1 up to 8v8, and how to properly play at the positions listed in those formations. The diagrams show where the players should be and how they should move and how the defense should recover if beaten. The explanations are clear and understandable. The book goes over the common mistakes made and what should be done. This book has offense, defense and set play information. I am so glad I found this book before our spring season starts.Product details

Caveat The Table of Contents, p. 9, does not indicate the page numbers on which chapters begin. Nor do the caption titles at the head of each chapter necessarily match those given in the Table of Contents. Running titles are not present, nor is there an index. In short, finding your way around within the text is problematic. And the caption "Forward" on p. 7 should properly be "Foreword"--an increasingly common error in publications. These remarks are no reflection on the quality of the work, but production and editing are substandard.
This book is a must have for anyone that coaches soccer. As a coach that work with younger kids I always wonder why it was so hard to get kids at practice to focus, after reading this book and giving the young charges the opportunity to do what they came to do,which is PLAY, that all changed. The results shows on the pitch and they all leave with a smile! Now I use small sided games in all my training.
I don't know if I have an early edition or this a vanity press book or what, but the grammar mistakes in this book are appalling. The author not only doesn't know the difference between "than" and "then" but has their usage completely backwards. The book has a lot of good material but it is a painful read. If you can get past the poor grammar, it is a useful book that has a lot of good material for coaching soccer. There is a lot on tactics and strategy as well as suggested drills. Hopefully the books available now have been edited and you don't have to deal with the bad grammar.
Good info here, totally worth 99 cents. If the editing was better and charts more readable... It would be worth $1.99, maybe even more.
This was a great resource. It certainly helped with games ideas, strategies and tactics. Players and coaches should read this resource.
I agree with the other reviewers when it comes to the editing. It could have been much better. The content of the book however is excellent. I've moved from coaching recreational soccer to club soccer and this book is an excellent resource for coaches. I would recommend this book and the DVD "Street Soccer An Introduction to Small-Sided Games" to any coach, new or experienced. Both references are packed with useful information that would benefit anyone coaching youth soccer. The only reason it is not 5 stars is because of the poor editing.
